A clean window ≠ ordinary glass!

In cleanroom construction, a window is far more than just "clear glass"

In a cleanroom environment, windows are more than just glass openings. Their special design – from the structure and opening method to the functional details – reflects strict pollution control requirements. Installing ordinary glass can become a source of pollution!

1. Design: tightness is the key to cleanliness

Seamless integrated frame:
Metal frames are a no-no for cleanrooms. Cleanroom windows have a seamless welded or built-in sealed design that leaves no gaps between the glass, frame and wall, eliminating dust accumulation.

Laminated tempered glass:
Regular single-layer glass is not suitable. Usually, double- or triple-layer glass units with inert gas inside are used, which provides sound and heat insulation and prevents condensation and the growth of microorganisms.

2. Opening methods: balance between safety and sterility

Fixed (non-opening) windows:
They are used in areas with the highest cleanliness class (e.g. operating rooms), provide complete tightness and eliminate external contamination.

Sealed sliding windows:
Equipped with a pressure equalization system that reduces air turbulence when opening/closing and prevents particle transfer.

Locking system:
Some windows are integrated with ventilation - when opened, an alarm is triggered to maintain positive pressure in the room.

3. Functional features: invisible protector

Antistatic coating:
Ordinary glass attracts dust. The glass of a clean window is coated with a transparent conductive film that dissipates static electricity in less than 2 seconds.

Self-cleaning surface:
Photocatalytic UV coating breaks down organic contaminants, reducing the need for manual cleaning.

Impact and explosion resistance:
The built-in metal mesh or laminated layer holds the glass fragments when it breaks, ensuring the safety of personnel.

Conclusion:

Cleanroom windows are a "transparent barrier" of a sterile environment. Every detail of the design is a fight against microbes and particles. The next time you see such a window, remember - it is not just glass!
